This advice might be a bit contradictory on this blog since it’s all about production info but please, stop reading this blog (and other blogs) and get your ass in the studio. Learn why in the article.
Have you ever heard of analysis paralysis?
It’s a state of over-analyzing certain situations and ending up making no decision at all.
I’ve read a lot of health, nutrition and fitness information yet i’m still not the healthy muscular machine I’d like to be. The world of nutrition is fucked up (pardon my French). Everyone has different interests and wears a different point of view. Almost all websites on this subject have conflicting advice. But instead of trying them out, I read more information to get the right answer. Which leaves me in the same condition I was.
The same applies to producing. I hear a lot of songs that do well on Beatport and get a lot of support in various podcasts. Sometimes I think to myself: I can do this also, perhaps even better. However I don’t have tracks to prove it. The technical knowledge is there yet there are no tracks to support these thoughts in my head. Is it arrogance? Maybe, but I don’t think so. I think my priorities aren’t good. Mixing and mastering is a craft you could outsource, the creative part isn’t in my opinion (I don’t consider ghostproduced tracks ‘your track’). So get creative and solve problems as they come to your feet, instead of looking for that one magic plugin or preset (which you’ll never find because it simply doesn’t exist).
Can you identify yourself in the above?
My advice for you is: close your browser, open your DAW and just make some fucking music. In the end of the day that’s why we’re in this game.
On that note I want to take a quick moment and wish you all the best for 2014. Identify your goals and make them happen!
